No shenanigans at Strikeforce weigh-in

Strikeforce has picked up a bunch of spare parts from the wreckage of EliteXC, and after the Cris Cyborg situation I was wondering if they had inherited the defunct promotion’s constant issues with fighters making weight as well. But the weigh-ins yesterday for the Lawler vs Shields card went smoothly and everyone made weight. Congrats, Strikeforce! See all the results and pictures here.

Also making one of his first appearances since whacking Frank Shamrock was Nick Diaz, who seems less like the disgruntled jerk he normally is. I’d be less grumpy if I was him too. It’s pretty sweet that Strikeforce is hooking him up with real matches instead of bullshit with guys like Mike “Fake Injury” Aina and Thomas “I lost to the bully on Bully Beatdown” Denny.

The Scott Smith fight is Nick’s to lose but is still a nice dangerous test on the way to a potential rematch with Robbie Lawler. With Cung Le stating that an interim middleweight belt will be set up soon, you get the feeling Diaz and Jake Shields are engaged in a friendly inter-gym race to win it. Kinda wacky when you consider neither of them are real middleweights.
