“Old and Busted” vs “New Hotness”

I think us crusty fans have spent so much time crying tears into our beers as our favorite oldschool fighters crash and burn that we’ve forgotten all the new and exciting talent that’s budding before our very eyes. In addition to young champs like Georges St Pierre (28) who have just hit their prime, we have a whole bunch of guys on their way up:

  • Shinya Aoki (25 years old)
  • Gegard Mousasi (23 years old)
  • Thiago Silva (26 years old)
  • Nate Diaz (23 years old)
  • Dustin Hazelett (22 years old)
  • Junior Dos Santos (24 years old)
  • Roger Huerta (25 years old)
  • Cain Velasquez (26 years old)
  • Eddie Alvarez (24 years old)
  • JZ Cavalcante (25 years old)

So while I’m right there with you guys in lamenting the approaching specter of washed-upness when it comes to guys like Chuck, Nog, Wanderlei, Hughes, Saku, Mirko, and Hunt, I’m also happy knowing that there’s a whole bunch of new guys coming into their own that will be around for a long time to come.
