Only cowards take a fight to the ground, and other wise arguments from Rampage Jackson

There was a press conference for the next UFC on FOX yesterday and as expected, the star of the show was Demetrious Johnson. Haha just kidding no one cares about that guy. It was Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson’ that caused a stir, talking shit about Glover Teixiera being a coward and of course how the UFC treats him like shit.

“Glover is a guy who is just like everybody else, they say they are going to stand with me when most of his training camp is taking me down and fighting me on the ground just like the other guys. These cowards needs to do what they say they’re going to do and stop trying to confuse me and have me training in other areas but I’m smarter than that now. Now I see his game plan.”

Wow, is Rampage so oldschool that he really falls for ‘I’m gonna stand and bang with him’ talk? No one’s fallen for that shit in years. Never mind the fact that this isn’t kickboxing and it’s totally acceptable to haul a dude down and pound his face in if he can’t stop you. When asked if getting matched up with a bunch of cowardly wrestlers was the reason he was pissed with the UFC, he responded:

“No, no, that’s just one of the reasons. That’s not the primary reason. I have a new reason now, I sponsored by Reebok now and the UFC said I’m not allowed to wear Reebok in the cage when other fighters are sponsored by Nike and stuff, why can’t I have Reebok? Stupid stuff like that. It’s not about money, it’s about respect. I put my life on the line and they don’t appreciate it. The UFC – I can’t wear Reebok which I think is illegal as well.”

“They re-negotiated my contract but I didn’t want it. I think that the UFC don’t know how to treat their athletes. They’re getting rich off all of us, we have injuries, surgies, some of these guys fight for $10,000, $20,000, that ain’t right, man.”

I dunno, I think the UFC has done a pretty good job of creating a machine that pays its fighters well and invests heavily in the infrastructure that allows the sport to continue to grow. Which in turn leads to fighters getting paid even more. Rampage likes to talk like all the money just goes right out of his pocket into Lamborghinis and sabre tooth tiger skulls for Dana and the Fertittas. Never mind the hundreds of people the UFC employs and millions spent on promotion. That money should be Rampage’s! The UFC should be more like boxing!
