To sample, glance at or religiously read most MMA blogs is to partake in numerous breakdowns of UFC President Dana White. Whether it’s his politics, family life, affinity for the sport or psychological profile under the microscope, the online media can be routinely expected to be dissecting and hypothesizing about some part of White’s psyche. As a 10% owner of the most wildly successful MMA promotion in history (along with being amongst its most effective and recognizable proponents), the criticism and speculation aren’t unwarranted. It does, however, seem like the negative examples (Dana calls an anonymous source a “faggot”, Dana says he’ll cut Anderson Silva even if he keeps winning, Dana turned off Fedor with his crude language and demeanor) are far more often reverberated through the echo chamber than the positive ones (Dana pays Nam Phan his win bonus after the Garcia fight, Dana hooks up random fans with comped rooms and tickets).
I’d like to contribute this story from Middle Easy, regarding a thread on the Underground, in the positive column. The following are the two relevant posts, with the latter coming from a frequent UG commenter known to be a UFC representative.

Dana will pay for the remaining funds needed for the surgery.
It’s way easier to bash Dana than to defend him. An outspoken critic of the man is hailed by a solid chunk of our collective readership as speaking truth to power, placing the fighters and the sport ahead of this bald man whom makes a mark of anyone he can. Someone supportive of White’s vision of the sport is termed a Zuffa zombie, under the sway and influence of a carnival barker that couldn’t fill Vince McMahon’s suit. I’m going to go ahead and argue that, as a human being, White is somewhere in the middle of the disparate opinions regarding him. And for the record, the same can be said about those of us writing the opinions.

Dude, the “sport” has nothing to do with it, it’s a matter of human decency. But whatever, that’s nitpicking, since his appeal worked, so all’s well, etc.

Reports were that after the Flash Ent sale he’s down to 9%. I’ve obviously not seen the documents to this effect but word is the Fertittas and White diluted their shares equally when Flash bought their 10%, taking Dana down to 9%.
Dana White for all his faults is probably not a monster – unlike, say, Don King (and Rebney if certain rumours are to be believed).
It’d be real interesting to see what a post-Dana UFC would look like. Dana is on every TUF episode (more or less), he’s at every event, he’s on conference calls, he hosts most press conferences and (rumours are that) he has his fingers in basically everything UFC. Dana White for all intents and purposes IS the UFC.

I like Dana, he is a bit like myself except rich, and doing this is just another one of the many nice things he does for fans. There have been many examples of him doing right by fighters and fans, like paying for Nate Quarry’s back surgery or not firing joe stevenson even though he sucks balls.
That said if he didnt pay for it he would come off as a real douche so partly this is a PR clean up.

Subo, the problem with you is you are so incredibly biased to anything zuffa you can’t see their flaws. You have little to no credibility because you can’t see anything in mma objectively.
Before you call me an anti-zuffa pride nut hugger you should know i have purchased (PPV) more zuffa events than 99% of mma fans. In all honestly, i love the UFC, but i recognize that is far from perfect. It is the best mma right now, but that doesn’t mean everything they do is gold.

Rev touched on a good point, he HAD to do this. You don’t get many more viewers than you do on the UG, especially by media.
It doesn’t negate the fact that what he did was very generous, but show me a case when he does it out of the goodness of his heart, not because he was under pressure from a widely viewed blog/forum.

Together they boldly go where no MMA organization has gone before.
Sometimes they make mistakes. Zuffa, the UFC and Dana are in unchartered territory. They have to make up the rules as they go, There are no manuals, no how to books and no guidelines to help them navigate the situations and decisions they face every day. They have to do what is good for today while planning for the distant future.
Dana White is a character. He is the face of the UFC. He has one hell of a team behind him. They do the legwork and he takes the flak for them. In exchange he makes millions. That’s his pat on the back. No matter what he says or does there will always be critics that make their living criticising the decisions made by others. Opinions are opinions and everyone is allowed to have them and voice them.
Most millionaires have a non written rule that they usually say no to any direct request. If they say yes it creates precedent and they look like assholes if they say yes to one and no to another. William Riker once told me Dana NEVER says no to fans and that’s why his handlers are very careful where and when they expose him to the public.
The Fertitas, Dana White, Zuffa and the UFC have a good track record when it comes to generosity to charities and fans.
Dana White does what he does and he does it well.

personally i chose not to donate. a mod once got half the OG to send him money with a “my mother is dying of cancer, please help” thread. once bitten twice shy. btw im pretty sure that guy is still a fucking mod there, ten years later.
