Aside from some occasional douchebaggery on his part, I like Benji Radach a lot. He’s another aggressive hard hitting mofo and I’ve been a fan since I saw him knock Ninja Rua the fuck out at EliteXC’s final event. Unfortunately, he’s only fought once since then – he was involved in one of Scott Smith’s patented last second comebacks. You know how those end:
Since then he’s been out with a broken hand, then an injured knee, and now a torn pectoral that’s going to keep him out for another 7 freaking months. Oh well, at least we get this grody story from MMA Weekly about the injury:
“My arm locked out on his head and it just straightened my arm out and tore my pec from my bone to my shoulder,” said Radach. “It balled up in the center of my chest and it was pretty nasty.”
The former UFC fighter says he actually stopped training that day, but planned on getting back in the gym before the pain became so excruciating that he had to go to the doctor to have things checked out.
“I went in and got an MRI and it confirmed that it was torn from the bone,” stated Radach. “They had to drill a bunch of holes in the bone, and put some wire in the tissue, weaved it through the muscle and so they had a bunch of strings hanging off the tips of the meat. Then they put those strings through the bone, and scar up the bone so it bleeds and the tissue as well and pull it nice and tight, tie it behind the bone, and those wires and strings will stay in to help it stay strong. They said it would be a rock solid surgery and recovery, and that it would be stronger than before.”
