Robbie Lawler will get his shot at taking down Johny Hendricks after stopping Matt Brown’s seven-fight win streak Saturday night at UFC on FOX 12.
Lawler earned a decision victory, out-striking Brown and becoming the first contender to Hendricks’ title. Earlier this year, “Bigg Rigg” downed Lawler via decision to win the vacant championship.
“I am very excited,” Lawler said. “I want to get back to work and go after Hendricks. I’m gonna be the one waiting for him and that’s nice.”
Hendricks has been on the sidelines since defeating Lawler due to bicep surgery. He is expected to be cleared for a return by the fall.
On this night, though, it was all about “Ruthless,” as he handed Brown his first loss since 2011.
“I told him there were two champions in this ring and he is a hell of a fighter,” Lawler said. “We put on a great show. He came and went toe-to-toe with me, not something too many people will do.”
