Ronda Rousey Has Complete Respect For Cat Zingano

UFC female bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey appeared on an episode of Bruce Buffer’s “It’s Time” podcast to discuss her career and future.

While Rousey maintains hope for a January 3 fight with Cat Zingano at UFC 182, she made it known that nothing has been finalized just yet. Zingano is coming off a victory over Amanda Nunes in her long-awaited return.

“I hope January 3 we’ll be able to fight,” Rousey said (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for the transcribing). “It’s still up in the air a little bit. We’ll see how she’s feeling after her last fight.”

For Rousey, it’s been an extended period away from competition. She closed out 2013 with a December submission win over Miesha Tate, quickly jumping back into training and finishing Sara McMann in February.

Between movie and photo shoots, Rousey stayed in shape, defeating Alexis Davis in July to improve to 10-0 in her career with four successful title defenses.

Zingano (9-0) has scored two wins inside the Octagon, having also finished Tate in 2013. She suffered a knee injury in training after being declared the No. 1 contender, and also battled the loss of her trainer and husband to suicide.

“I really, really like Cat,” Rousey said. “I will fight that girl at the total peak of my ability and the best that I can do. That’s how I show her my respect. I give her a little bit of everything I have. I want to show that respect for her.”
