Roxanne Modafferi is many things: one of the top female fighters in the world, one of the nicest people in the biz, and a full fledged Fightlinker Jackal. Now she’s also one of the AFL’s most recent signings, and she’ll be taking on Tara LaRosa in November:
The Kentucky-based American Fight League also recently signed arguably the world’s top female fighter, Tara LaRosa (15-1). LaRosa will likely fight Modafferi at the AFL’s November pay-per-view debut, according AFL Director of Public Relations Sean McClure.
The organization has not yet announced a date for the event.
Modafferi, a University of Massachusetts graduate, currently lives and trains in Japan. Currently riding a five-fight win streak, the 25-year-old won the 2007 K-GRACE women’s open-weight tournament in Tokyo by defeating three opponents in one night. However, she’s fought just once in the past 15 months.
Tara and Roxy have fought before, with Tara taking a decision. Following Roxy as close as I do, I’m drooling at the prospect of a rematch since her striking skills are lightyears beyond where they were before. This fight is also inside of a cage, which will make it easier for Roxy to work submissions without getting shoved through the ropes. Here’s hoping this is for the belt … Tara LaRosa is considered #1 and Roxy #3 (with Shayna Baszler #2 before she lost to Cyborg), so it certainly deserves to be.
