Just got up … it took 30 hours to get to Chicago and back, but it was very worth it to meet Roxy for the first time and hang out with her. She really is one of the nicest people in the sport (followed closely by her coach and MMA.tv head honcho Kirik). The fight didn’t go well … Roxy got caught with an armbar early in the first which obviously sucks, but it happens. The last time she got caught early in a fight against Shayna Baszler, she came back and won her next six. So I look forward to the next six wins!
At the post-fight press conference Roxy said “MMA is a sport where you step on other people to achieve your dreams, and tonight I got stepped on.” Obviously she was pretty bummed out, but she also made it clear that she would be back. Here’s hoping Strikeforce throws her into their 135-pound women’s tournament early next year.
You can hear from Roxy herself over at her Myspace blog. I’ll have some more stuff up as I shake the cobwebs out, including a comprehensive journal of the trip plus various news about that Fedor guy who fought as well.
