Say whaaaaaaat?

Really? REALLY?

Mark Hominick is one win away from fighting for the UFC featherweight title.

Dana White confirmed on Tuesday’s UFC conference call that if “The Machine” beats George Roop at Fight for the Troops 2 on Jan. 22, he will fight Jose Aldo for the 145-pound title at UFC 129 on April 30 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Yeah, I get it. Canadian fighting for a title at the big Skydome show. But it’s going to be hard for anyone to see this as anything other than a two minute massacre waiting to happen.

    RIP Hominick

  • frickshun

It’s not like there are other names built up that people are clamoring for. Fuck it. Somebody must be thrown in the volcane to satisfy the MMA gods (Dana & Lorenzo).

  • Omomatta

Ryan……you’ve seen Aldo fight. Hominick will make it to the second round. That’s when Aldo does his best demolition work.

  • FiveBoltMain

Who cares! I just want to see Aldo murder a poor smuck dumb enough to step in the cage with him.

  • Blackula Jonez

    Wins before title shot.

Brock Lesnar : after being defeated by Mir, Lesnar beat heath herring via UD and got a title shot.

Josh Koscheck: after being ko’ed by paulo thiago, kos fought trigg, anthony johnson and paul daley and got a title shot.

Chael Sonnen: After being submitted by Demian Maia, Sonnen defeated Dan Miller, Okami and Nate Marquardt all via UD and got a title shot.

Vitor Belfort: Has not fought at middleweight since coming back to the UFC, defeated former champ Rich Franklin at a catchweight of 195 and is getting a middleweight title shot.

Shogun: After getting submitted by Forrest Griffin, Mauricio Rua defeated Mark Coleman and Chuck Liddell and got a title shot.

Frankie Edgar: After getting decisioned by Grey Maynard, Edgar defeated Hermes Franca, Sean Sherk and Matt Veach before getting his title shot

If Hominick beats Roop it will be his 5th straight win, if anything Ryan should be asking why it took so long for Hominick to get his shot at the belt.

  • CAP

Yeah who else they got? I just wanna see Aldo fight. And Dana can always change his mind anyway.

  • frickshun

    ^^Good call Black!!

  • DJ ThunderElbows

He’s well-rounded and will provide a yard stick that the UFC audience is familiar with.

  • Symbul

Who else have they got? It’s a pretty young division still.

  • Omomatta

I smell a future TUF season. Plus they’ll be able to switch from Vans to Sedans for fighter transport.

  • Blackula Jonez

And if Brock beats JDS take a wild fucking guess what his next fight will be.

Clue: It rhymes with “Knive clown rifle sight”.

  • glassjawsh

^ THANK YOU blackula for speakin some sense. too bad most of the jackals don’t understand numbers, facts, or figures

  • lukustra

mark is a great fighter. he has awesome standup. he’ll be a better challenge to Aldo then much of his past opposition.

  • Rodriguez

Shit, I’ll pick Hominick against Aldo.

  • frickshun

    ^^You’d be a fool!!

    (goes to hedge bets w/co-workers….)

  • scissors61

lolz @ Rodriguez. In any case, I can’t think of a better booking. The only way to make a really big fight at 145 right now would be to have a top lightweight drop down and challenge for the belt, which ain’t happening any time soon. Should be a good showcase fight for Aldo while the division sorts itself out a little more.

  • Boog

I’m with Blackula, this isn’t a dumb matchup, since if Mark wins, it will be his fifth in a row.

And style-wise, it’s interesting. I’m a huge Team Tompkins homer (since I’ve trained with that crew), but I don’t think Hominick has a great chance.

That being said, outside of Aldo himself, I think Hominick has the best, most technical striking at 145, so he should at least make a fight out of it.

  • Redping

sotiropolous and jim miller and a few others have the opinion that it sometimes takes more than a win or two to get a title shot

  • Reverend Clint

homodick folds like a napkin when he isnt fighting bums. plus he seriously looks like this guy…

  • Predator8u

it should be a good fight. its not ideal though. they both stand and trade w/good ground.

i luved Roop’s KO of Koren Zombie

I was at the WEC Aldo vs. Faber so i saw Leonard “easy win” Garcia VS. Chan Sung Jung. and after mutiple rewatching that is one of the “MOST OVER RATED FIGHTS EVER” it needed to be said. also Jon Jones recieves way to much hype (even if he has an awesome kill spirit)

KILL SPIRIT WINs FIGHTS ( just fuckin unload!)

  • Blackula Jonez

I can’t take Rod seriously when discussing Aldo, he has picked against him since his title fight with Brown. I’ll just sum it up to irrational hate since he seems to just blindly pick against him without any kind of sound logic as to why.

I agree with scissors that it will be a former lightweight that will give Aldo a run for his money, until then the 145’ers still need fleshing out. If the UFC can snatch up guys like Joe Warren, Hioki, Sandro, Soto, Bibi, Hellboy, Takaya and Patricio Pitbull then the division will truly be world class, but as of now too many of the top guys are outside of Zuffa.

Guys like Tyson Griffin, Clay Guida and Frankie Edgar (i know he is the LW champ but the man is a natural featherweight who is getting by because he is a high level athlete and a truly remarkable fighter) basically any lightweight under 5’7 is kidding themselves when most new breed lightweights are 5’8 and bigger. Not saying a smaller guy can’t be successful, but that they will be at a huge size disadvantage and have their finishing ability diminished due to fighters whose main advantage is that they are just larger than they are.

“homodick folds like a napkin when he isnt fighting bums. plus he seriously looks like this guy…

Holy buttfuck! The resemblance is uncanny. Like a long lost twin brother.

  • Remco Pardoel

Yeah, but don’t forget Banjo Boy saved the day and is a HERO!

    WAR Banjo Boy Hominick!
