Shocker! Mayweather isn’t getting paid 20 million

I try not to say “I told you so” all the time, because quite frankly people who do that are douches, and I’m trying to keep my lame level down around ‘general waddage’. But in the case of people believing what pro wrestlers or pro wrestling organizations say, I told you so: Never ever believe anything they freaking say. If they tell you water is wet, you better double check that shit to make sure it hasn’t turned dry. Case in point:

$20 million: The alleged amount of money Mayweather is supposed to be getting for his appearance. Not real. The most money anyone has ever earned for a one-time pro wrestling appearance was Mike Tyson at WrestleMania in 1998, which was good for about $3.5 million. Even though pro wrestling was more popular in America then, WrestleMania itself is a bigger money show now, partially because WWE’s popularity has expanded outside North America. But the Tyson of 1998 had more drawing power than the Mayweather of 2008. Wrestling sources indicate Mayweather is getting a $2 million flat fee, plus a percentage that should put him in Tyson’s range.

The article this comes from also includes a bunch of other hilarious information, such as the WWE’s original plans to make Floyd Mayweather Jr come off as a ‘good guy’. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve met anyone who I like less than Mayweather … he’s the cockiest piece of shit in the world. There are known child molesters out there with more charisma than that guy.

Well duh! Anybody with even the slightest understanding of the WWE’s current business situation know they can’t afford such a huge and hollow expenduture like $20 mil. just to get Floyd Mayweather for 20 mintues on one night and with very little return.

If I had to bet I’d say Miss Mayweather had to claw and scrap just to get $2 mil. out of Old MacVincy.

Even if he *only* gets 2 Million, it’s still a lot of money, and that coupled with the story of 20 million has got to turn the heads of elite MMA fighters.

A guy, popular as hell, like Forrest or Tito can train for months, hire coaches, fight a real fight and do a kick ass job to score a fight of the night bonus and not hit 2 million.

Wrestling screws its own, but pays out the ass for celebrities. The next Wrestlmania or the next will feature some dude (Chuck, Tito, Randy, Slice) and that dude will get paid.

Why the hell would you pay $2 million for 20 minutes of Floyd Mayweather? Mayweather won’t bring in an extra $2 million dollars worth of tickets or PPV buys. How many people are going to say, “Oh man I gotta order Wrestlemania to see Floyd Mayweather”? I thought so. Why does Vince McMahon even bother to waste so much money on celebrity appearances?

Let’s not forget that Mayweather has been appearing every week on WWE programming as standard hype building whatever. So it’s not really 20 minutes. It’s weeks of promotion
