Strikeforce has announced a whackload of fights for the first part of 2010. For January they confirmed:
- Cris Cyborg vs Marloes Coenen (for 145 pound belt)
- Marius Zaromskis vs Nick Diaz (for 170 pound belt)
- Bobby Lashley vs TBA
- Herschel Walker vs TBA
Also mentioned by Scott Coker but not confirmed:
- Robbie Lawler vs Melvin Manhoef
- Jay Heiron vs Joe Riggs
And for the next CBS show in April, Coker said they were working on:
- Fedor Emelianenko vs Fabricio Werdum
- Dan Henderson vs Jake Shields
- Gilbert Melendez vs Shinya Aoki
- Josh Thomson vs Tatsuya Kawajiri or KJ Noons
Now before you get too excited about all this, keep in mind that a bunch of these sound more like Scott Coker’s optimistic desires than nearly locked in fights. Lawler is iffy about fighting in January because his wife is about to pop a kid out. Overeem is still waffling on coming to America, and I’ve had the football pulled out from underneath me Charlie Brown style too often with big Japanese names to believe the Aoki thing until it’s official.
Unfortunately, the most solid fight sounds like Fedor vs Werdum. I looked deep into my heart and tried really hard to see if I could find it within myself to get excited for this fight. But alas, past the general enjoyment I get from seeing Fedor tool people, nothing. At least Werdum has the resume and the size to be a legitimate opponent … on paper. But the reality of the situation is that he’s another less than enthralling opponent for Fedor.
