I can’t tell you how happy this makes me:
While on “Inside MMA,” Clay Guida announced that he will train at Greg Jackson’s to prepare for his upcoming fight with Kenny Florian at UFC 107. Guida is the latest fighter to jump to Jackson’s to upgrade his game where he will train with the likes of Georges St. Pierre, Nate Marquardt, Donald Cerrone, Leonard Garcia and Rashad Evans.
I used to be a big Clay Guida fan, and that fandom even managed to survive having to get naked on the internet because I bet on him against Roger Huerta. But over the last year and a half I have grown sour on the dude because I realized he’s exactly the same fighter as he was when he arrived in the UFC 3 years ago. He’s the energizer bunny and he’ll hump the shit out of you with an unparalleled ferociousness, but his striking is still pretty terrible and he barely even tries any submissions any more.
I’m not sold on the whole Greg Jackson as a magic training genie thing, but he did re-invigorate Joe Stevenson nicely and if he can do the same for Clay Guida, that’d be awesome. I was generally hyped for the Guida / Florian fight at UFC 107, but now I’m really interested in seeing whether Jackson can help Guida take things to the next level.
