The Fightlinker Guide to TUF 8 – Part 4

Here’s part four of our TUF 8 guide. Get it while it’s hot, or half of it will be obsolete! This section features John Polakowski, George Roop, Ryan Bader, Antwain Britt, Jules Bruchez, and Lance Evans!

John Polakowski | Lightweight
Age: 26
MMA Record: 3-1-0
Trains With: The Pit
Location: San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Random Whatevers:

-This guy’s three fights have all been in the WEC against the same guy: Olaf Alfonso. The first fight was considered FOTY quality, and John lost a split decision. Since he was a last second replacement, they set up a rematch where Olaf was injured early in (a hip injury). Sooo, rubber match and another great fight, another split decision but this one in Polakowski’s favor.

-Polakowski is from the Pit … wonder if this is a favor to Chuck

My Prediction: Doesn’t make it into the house
Douche factor: Unknown

George Roop | Lightweight
Age: 26
MMA Record: 7-3-0
Trains With: Ultima MMA
Location: Tucson, Ariz.

Random Whatevers:
-Friends with Frank Mir
-Roop is the Rage In The Cage lightweight and bantamweight champ (which is a bit odd … he can cut to bantamweight?)
” target=”_blank”>-Here’s a video of Roop winning that LW belt via decision … he doesn’t seem to have a lot of weapons on top, does he?
-And ” target=”_blank”>here’s a video of him showing off some ground and pound skills
-I dunno what the fuck that tattoo on his belly says … Dopey?

My Prediction: If he makes it into the house, he doesn’t make it past round 1
Douche factor: Low

Ryan Bader | Light Heavyweight
Age: 24
MMA Record: 7-0-0
Trains With: Arizona Combat Sports
Location: Chandler, Ariz.

Random Whatevers:
-4 fights, 4 knockouts. But no wins against anyone halfway decent.
-Bader was with Jesse Taylor the night Taylor kicked out the limo window
-Check out ” target=”_blank”>this video of Bader highlights … good wrestling control and goes for slams. Very fucking nice. Hits hard, but he doesn’t seem too accurate with those strikes
-Best friends with CB Dollaway

My Prediction: Gets to the finals
Douche factor: Not a loud douch but a cocky fuck douch

Antwain Britt | Light Heavyweight
Age: 29
MMA Record: 4-0-0
Trains With: Bombsquad MMA
Location: Virginia Beach, Va.

Random Whatevers:
-Out of 7 pro fights and 2 amateur fights, he’s all KO’s with the exception of 1 decision loss in YAMMA. Fuck that must suck to have a dumb decision loss in that retarded tournament.
-Britt started training MMA just to get in shape because he used to be over 300 pounds (probably explains the stretch marks on his belly)
-Best quote: “Man, I’m a cookie monster. I would definately have to say the cookies. Even women who can’t cook that great know how to bake cookies man. All types of cookies. As a matter of fact, if you bake cookies send me some!”

My Prediction: Doesn’t make it into the house unfortunately, considering he’s fighting here in October.

Douche factor: Low

Jules Bruchez | Light Heavyweight
Age: 30
MMA Record: 3-2-0
Trains With: Ronin Dojo
Location: Lafayette, La.

Random Whatevers:
-Here’s an interview with Jules where he comes off as a decent dude, wanting to help make some money for his mom and family
-Aaaand here’s his myspace page where he’s featured wearing panties on his face. Again I gotta give props for the Fight Club music.
-But then you learn that he’s a hardcore Phil Collins fan

Do you like Phil Collins? I’ve been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that I really didn’t understand any of their work. It was too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins’ presence became more apparent. I think “Invisible Touch” is the group’s undisputed masterpiece. It’s an epic meditation on intangibility, at the same time it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument.

My Prediction: From the interview and how he presents TUF on his myspace, I think he probably got into the house. But otherwise I wouldn’t have expected it. Bet he goes out in the next round.

Douche factor: Medium, hopefully full of entertaining creole stereotypes.

Lance Evans | Light Heavyweight
Age: 30
MMA Record: 4-2-0
Trains With: TKO MMA
Location: Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Not to be Confused with: Lance Evans, 145 pound fighter (although confused the two)

Random Whatevers:

-I actually saw Lance Evans win the last time he was in Quebec. He was aight, i guess.
-He’s already booked outside the UFC at the next TKO event in October, which doesn’t bode well for his chance of getting into the house
-And at some other place next weekend!

My Prediction: Doesn’t make it into the house

Douche factor: Won’t last long enough to find out.
