The Goat considers retirement

Hey guys, just a quick note that today will feature some serious fight linking as opposed to the standard fight linking + detailed opinions. This is partially because I’ve got like 2 hours to post shit up as opposed to my usual 4-5 hours, and partially because there’s a bunch of news that’s kinda self explanitory.

To start things off, let’s take a look at Sherdog’s Sengoku Notebook where Nick ‘the Goat’ Thompson is having himself a Crocop moment after getting taken out by Dan Hornbuckle:

“At this point I don’t know if there will be a next fight,” Thompson said. “I feel like going home, hugging my daughter and maybe calling it quits.”

Be that as it may, Thompson was gracious in praising Hornbuckle’s performance and expressing optimism for his future.

“I knew that Dan was a tough guy, but I thought I was the better fighter in every area,” he said. “My theme going into this fight was that he’s probably the future of the sport, but I’m the present. After today, I guess I’m the past and he’s the present.”

The Goat’s went from being regarded as one of the few sleeper welterweights floating around outside the UFC to being on the edge of retirement, all in the span of a few months. I can imagine dropping your last two fights to Tim Kennedy and Dan Hornbuckle must be humbling when you’re of the opinion that these guys are ‘beneath’ you, but both Tim and Dan seem to be on pretty serious upswings so I wouldn’t overanalyze the losses too much.
