The Low Blow Episode 170: November Mailbag

We start the month off with a mega-mailbag show lasting an excessive 2.1 hours long. Everything from the WEC merger to the hottest octagon girls to Bellator harassing Strikeforce gets talked over. Jon Fitch at 185, our MMA origins, weed smoking champs, Machida vs Rampage, and even some questions from the New York Bad Ass Phil Baroni get answered in this long ass show.

So Ryan thought I was racist all this time for calling Miss Powell “Mandella”? Sure it’s funny coincidence that that’s the name of a famous black guy, but come on… it’s cause she’s a man, man.

Actually the gif is of a dude gassing extremely bad.

RE: Martin Kampmann not getting the same offer as Shields.

Jake signed with the UFC in mid July.
Dana thought he earned a title shot based on his ’04-’10 undefeated streak.

GSP was already filming this season of TUF.
GSP is signed to fight KOS Dec. 11.

So GSP/KOS winner could be ready as soon as super bowl weekend. Later if they get even a little banged up.

Should Shield’s have to sit for 7+ months to get the title fight??

So give him someone “in the mix”:

Jon Fitch – the obvious choice, but the KOS/Fitch refusal to fight AKA team members leaves him in title limbo until we know who wins Dec. 11. This is Fitch’s choice to refuse a fight.

    Thiago Alves
    Carlos Condit
    Matt Hughes
    Dan Hardy
    Paulo Thiago
    Diego Sanchez
    Chris Lytle
    Mike Swick

Almost everyone has fights signed, injuries, or just lost.

Kampmann may not have got the #1 contender spot with a win, but I bet he would be moved ALOT closer to a shot.

Rampage having nothing left in the third against Rashad? He almost stopped him in the third I guess Cain had nothing left in the first against Brock

Strikes to the back of the head have a (as far I know, not a physician) legitimate medical reason for being banned. As I’ve seen it explained the areas at the back, if victimized the same way as the frontal lobe, will cause much more serious detrimental effects. I could try to poke at that theory but I’m not qualified.

Your fear of knees on the ground seems kind of absurd though. Guys getting their heads pounded through the canvas will be doing so from blows coming down on them. How will knees do that?

99% of illegal knees now are against guys with like one knee on the ground, or a hand down, generally in the kneeling position. That’s a bullshit rule. In no way is that worse than getting kneed in the Thai clinch “standing”.

The other sort of knees are like the ones Cro Cop nailed that Japanese guy whose name I forget with. Guy didn’t wanna concede the takedown attempt he got stuffed on and Mirko just pounded the top of his head with knees until everyone had had enough. Just don’t get yourself caught in that stupid position, or defend the knee.

Plus in MMA you can quit whenever you want.

  • Symbul

Oh and yes Rampage had nothing left in the third. Just like Thiago Silva, who did basically the exact same thing to Rashad. Rocked him, tried to follow up, didn’t have enough in the tank and just cruised to the finish.

I have no idea how you’re trying to tie Cain into it.

  • Letibleu

You described Jackals as “idiot morons” and “immature idiots”. :O

  • subo

I try not to write anything about a fighter I wouldn’t say to their faces, but Jake’s delightful fighter bashing/flat-out admission that he wouldn’t repeat these things makes me smile.

  • G Funk

No way that was from gassing, I dont care what the vid says

  • Márcio

The site is very slow, and I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I can’t download or listen to the show. When i try to download it the expected time keeps raising till it crashes and when i try to listen to it online nothing happens.
