The Low Blow Episode 199: UFC 134 + FOX!!!

This week on the Low Blow we celebrate Jake’s return to Montreal, the successes of several other members of the MMA blogosphere, and Rasul ‘Black Tiger’ Mirzaev’s run in with the law. We then break down the new UFC / Fox relationship, laying out what goes where and how it matches up with the old Spike deal. Options for November 12th are discussed, and the problem with injuries and training are reviewed. Last but obviously not least we jump all over the UFC 134 card, breaking down all PPV fights. 90 minutes of Low Blow goodness!

Your thoughts on Anderson Silva are mind bogglingly stupid.

He’s on his way down? The guy is getting older but jesus. haha

now do a happy hour to make my star feel special.

j/k, love your work, hope WMMA talk is kept to a minimum, xoxox

  • Night Rider

Ryan, reinvigorate that shit son, glad to hear you are looking to restructure and produce more regular podcasts.

Also looking forward to Sean Connery derailing these podcasts with his “bitch of babylon” banter.

And for all the Jackals that have talent with the interwebs and computers, start giving this guy a run for his money. It’ll be hard to top this in my eyes, this has been killing me since I first saw it. What happened to that matchstick mma shit someone was working on that shit was good.

  • CAP

    Noice! Low Blow me asap.

  • glassjawsh

    pretty sure that’s accurate

  • cyph

When will you guys put this show back on Itunes? It’s a real pain to download it then change genre to Podcast in order for me to listen in the car. Also, can you guys turn up the GAIN on the podcast? Its really soft and I have to turn volume up full blast to hear anything.

    I know I’m bitching a lot, but I bitch because I care. =)

  • CAP

Yeah I’ve had issues with the volume as well. I didn’t really mind though when Soobo was on. But whateva, glad I have something to listen to.

I won’t get to listen until tonight, but I’m amped for more low-blow.

Who’s the abortion who approved painting muscles on Shogun?  I don’t think I’ve ever seen Zuffa sink that low before.  They up the contrast to bring out more definition or airbrush out tats, but to go ab-abber on this shit?  WTF.

  • Letibleu

I think its artwork, not pictures.

  • DJ ThunderElbows

Naw, look at Lil Nog.  They did paint-overs on some photos.  Fucking terrible.

  • Letibleu

Most abs i have yet to find on Shogun:

  • agentsmith

I bet Shogun could make 185 if he wanted to. He’s never been as ripped as most other guys in the UFC.

  • Letibleu

I don’t think he would go there at this point in his career and at his age. I think he could too and it would have been interesting a few years ago.

  • lukustra

Subo, you are such an mma noob its fucking embarrassing. your mma knowledge is abysmal. and pearson is gonna get destroyed by Barboza and stop acting like Forrest’s size advantage is a fucking big deal when Forrest couldnt finish someone on his feet if his life depended on it while Shogun could finish almost every light heavyweight in the UFC.

  • DJ ThunderElbows

    Luka, you … right.

So Jake thinks nobody is worth anything because the only people they beat are each other – who are nobodies – and the skills they show aren’t worth anything unless they beat somebody of notoriety? Notoriety meaning they’ve beaten somebody of worth.

  • Letibleu

I think what he meant is he hasn’t fought high on the ladder yet so it is hard to gauge the depth of that’s fighters skill. The same way when a noob has won 3 or 4 impressive fights in the UFC we always expect to test him againt a top 10 or 15 for the very same reasons.

  • DJ ThunderElbows

He went on a rant discrediting the guys in the top 5, nevermind the losers in the top 10 or 15.  It was really funny.  Does he just like Rampage now?

  • Rhufio

I normally like Jake’s contributions a lot but that over the top hate got tiring pretty fast. It felt like Jake had decided beforehand to play this exaggerated version of himself. The part where he said he didn’t give a damn about the importance/context of fights because he’s a casual fan is just silly. You can’t pretend to be a disinterested casual fan after having co hosted hundreds of hours of mma podcasts.

Even if it’s not true, it’s not very appealing to listen to an mma podcast and hear the host say that he doesn’t care about the sport very much.
