John Cholish seems to have opened the pandora’s box of fighter pay in such a way that it refuses to close back up again, and now even fighters who haven’t been excommunicated from the UFC fold are starting to comment on the shitty pay fighters on the lower end of the totem pole receive. Check out these no nonsense words from no nonsense fighter Tim Kennedy:
“It’s pathetic that so many fighters [have to have other job]. I’m one of the 3% of guys in the whole entire sport and it would be slim pickings to survive off what I make in fighting. It’s a good thing I have another job because the UFC doesn’t pay very well. Anybody who accepts that as a reality of the sport is sad and pathetic. I hope this isn’t the reality of the sport, if it is I should probably go do something else, like empty trash cans. I’d make more money than I do now.”
Testify! Until guys starting off in the UFC are getting paid a fare wage – I’d say 20k/20k qualifies – these kinds of comments are gonna keep on coming out. 8k/8k has been the sad pathetic norm for like five years now and it’s time for that shit to improve.
