We all knew Tito Ortiz’s melon was growing to confounding proportions and it seems now like it’s starting to cause serious problems in training. He can’t go more than two camps without smashing his skull into something and fucking himself up. That seems to be what happened over the weekend, and now Tito’s out of his fight with Lil Nog:
Former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz was forced to withdraw from his March 26 bout with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira following a clash of heads in training that produced a concussion and a cut that required stitches. Unbeaten Phil ‘Mr. Wonderful’ Davis has stepped in for the UFC Fight Night main event in Seattle.
According to Tito on twitter, the cut required 22 stitches. I await pictures, not because I think Tito’s faking (although he does keep pulling out of fights he doesn’t have much of a chance of winning) but because I wanna see the latest cracked skull damage inflicted upon him.
Meanwhile, Phil Davis gets another opponent – he’s recently been switched from fighting Matt Hamill to Jason Brilz to Lil Nog now. I’d say Phil’s in trouble with this latest matchup but that’s not exactly true. Some night Nogueira looks like an unstoppable world beater and on others he barely puts up a fight against Bader-caliber opponents. Phil Davis is no Jon Jones (we’re not even sure if he’s a Ryan Bader yet), but if Nog doesn’t come in ready to bang, he’s gonna end up catapulting Davis to the next level.
