Sometimes you gotta take what Dana White says with a grain of salt. Or at least realize that he’s not God (just an MMA demi-god) and can’t move mountains in a day. But when he said the UFC was gonna start ‘testing the shit’ out of testosterone replacement therapy users, he wasn’t fooling around. On UFC Tonight, TRT user Chael Sonnen revealed that testing has already begun:
“First off, I admire Dana on many levels. But for me, this is his crowning moment, both as a leader, but also with his integrity. You are never going to find a chief executive of any corporation, be it sport, business or otherwise that shines a light on his own organization and says, ‘We have a problem.’ Guys, we’re not talking about testosterone use, we’re talking about testosterone abuse. The testing has already started. I can tell you firsthand, I have already been tested since this announcement.”
I know, I know. If you believe the stuff that comes out of Chael’s mouth, you’d think South America was still an all-jungle region inhabited by cro-magnon men. But this particular claim is backed up by Ariel Helwani, who isn’t about to fall for any Nog brother feeding a carrot to a bus story. According to him, testing started before the weekend, meaning there was barely any time between Dana’s declaration and the start of testing.
Now we just have to wait and see what the results are. Who needs a Gypsy Curse when you’re testing a bunch of your fighters for elevated levels of testosterone? Fights this could affect: Dan Henderson vs Lyoto Machida, Frank Mir vs Daniel Cormier, Jon Jones vs Chael Sonnen, and Vitor Belfort vs Luke Rockhold.
