UFC 135 gets a title fight

We already knew that UFC 135 would feature the rather odd matchup of Matt Hughes vs Diego Sanchez, but thankfully that won’t be the main event, as the UFC has announced that Bones and Rampage have “verbally agreed” to throw down for the light heavyweight belt.  Lucky for Rampage that a lame decision over inferior competition is enough to get a title shot by default when there’s no other good options at the moment.  I wonder how much trashtalk and debate of each other’s relative blackness these two will get up to?

Also added to the card are heavyweight matches featuring Travis Browne vs Rob Broughton and Mark Hunt vs Ben Rothwell.  Browne just toppled “Skyscraper” Struve at UFC 130, while Broughton hasn’t fought since his debut at UFC 120 where he choked out another noob who then pissed hot and was promptly fired.  Rothwell has been out nursing his ACL since his boring UD win over Gilbert Yvel last June, while Hunt finally snapped a 5-year losing streak with his walk-off KO of Fat Jake Busey.  Browne/Broughton should be decent, but as far as I’m concerned, Rothwell/Hunt should be a “loser gets fired and winner gets fired” match.  I’ll never get why they gave Hunt a second chance after McCorkle snapped his arm… but then he blessedly disposed of Tushscherer for us, so I guess he deserves another fight after that.  And it’s fair to say that Rothwell has been less than impressive in the UFC.

On the light end of the scale, Zuffa does former superstar Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto a favour and gives him an opponent who won’t wrestle the shit out of him in Damacio Page.  Both these guys are recent victims of the surging Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, who choked out Page and decisioned Kid in back-to-back fights.  Kid lost his UFC debut and 3 of his last 4, while Page has dropped 2 in a row and 3 of his last 5 (all by guillotine)… so suffice to say both these guys need a win pretty bad.  This one should be a great scrap.

Heavily anticipating this.  Wanna see how Bones handles an aggressive striker/wrestler like Rampage.

  • scissors61

hmmm, might have to go to this one

  • CAP

Very interested to see how Bones/Page goes down. Or how bad Bones makes Page look.

  • Symbul

Rampage is an aggressive striker? Dorothy, we’re not in Pride anymore. Been a while since that guy stepped into the cage.

I’ll give Jackson a chance at beating Jones but I think it’s Jones for a lopsided R2 stoppage.

  • DJ ThunderElbows

Getting smothered by a blanket and then fighting to avoid take-downs doesn’t mean to me that his instincts aren’t to come forward and strike.

I wholly hope for a Bones win.

  • Blackula Jonez

Rampages worst defeats have come when the fight is taken to him and he is bullied and not the bully.

All Quinton can hope for is that Bones blows his wad going nuts for a finish and he drags him into the champ rounds and turns the tide on him.

Way easier typed thean performed though.

this fight is going to be the first time in rampages career when he’s not given the “explosively athletic” black stereotype description on account of jones being 100 time more explosive and athletic

  • frickshun

After watching that Hunt KO, I realize how hard the fat fuck hits. He was essentially standing on 1 leg, slightly off balance when he cracked Fat Tush.

  • Blackula Jonez

The fact that he walked away before his opponent collapsed earnes him 100,000 cool points in my book.

You only do that when you have complete confidence in your ability to make a man unconcsious.

This is the first UFC where i can’t find a fighter I give a shit about.
