UFC 139 appears to have gotten a major boost after having had its original main event, Cain Velasquez vs. Junior Dos Santos, surgically removed and grafted on to the UFC’s FOX debut: mmaweekly.com is reporting that the brand-spankin’-new main event for the San Jose card will feature Shogun Rua vs. “Dangerous” “Decision” Dan “Hollywood” Henderson. This ought to satiate the large group of fans who (correctly) protested the Vitor Belfort/Cung Le fight that was added to the card as a blatant mismatch aimed at drawing in local dupes and fans of B-grade martial arts movies, seeing as it’s a good matchup that’s been much-discussed since the ancient salad days of PRIDE. Maybe they can bring back Takada in all his diapered glory for one last bang of the taiko drum before these guys scrap it out in Cali.
Both Henderson and Rua are coming off KO victories over fighters that have…*ahem*…seen better days in Forrest Griffin and Fedor Emelianenko, though Hendo has had a better run over the course of his last few fights. Then again, he’s been fighting guys like Rafael Feijao and not freak-limbed human buzzsaws like Jon Jones. For my part I’m taking Shogun in this fight due to Hendo’s age and tendency to engage in questionable slugfests with sharp strikers, but you never know. Who you got, Jackals?
