While checking out the UFC’s anemic middleweight roster on UFC.com, I noticed that a certain Pat Miletich guy is listed again. My initial reaction was to sit and wait for the UFC to announce his re-signing, but it looks like the deal isn’t done … “yet”:
“[It’s] just a matter of getting things figured out, I guess, on who I would be fighting,” Miletich said. “At this point, it needs to be a fight that make sense name-wise. … It was nice of them to leave that door open for me.”
If a deal could be reached, Miletich (29-7-2) would enter a highly-competitive welterweight division. He currently works as a color analyst for the Strikeforce Challengers events on Showtime, leading many to believe that if he would return to action, it would be in a Strikeforce cage. Miletich didn’t close the door on that possibility, either.
So does the UFC want Pat Miletich because they want Pat Miletich or because Strikeforce wanted Pat Miletich? Strikeforce is just the latest in a long line of UFC competitors Pat has been linked with … he was one of the main faces of the IFL (no idea why that failed…) and had some bullshit association with WAMMA too. I’m not all that excited about Miletich in the cage again, but I guess taking him away from working with other organizations is some sort of win for the UFC. Right? Phil Baroni style? No? Yeah, I don’t really get it either.
