UFC in Montreal just got more interesting

It’s a good time to be living in Montreal. Not only has the temperature been above -20 for the past few days (yay), but the UFC 113 card scheduled for May 1st here has just gotten way better. First off, the event is being headlined by the Machida / Rua rematch and I’m allowing myself to get excited for it with the help of this fan preview and a little bit of glue sniffing. But what’s really cool are the other matches being floated:

Josh Koscheck vs Paul Daley: There’s an ‘if’ attached to this one in the form of a Kos injury that might push things back, but both sides have verbally agreed to the fight. I expect Josh Koscheck to be incapable of finishing Daley on the ground and dumb enough to try and stand with him sometime during their three round fight.

Kimbo Slice vs Matt Mitrione: Very vaporous right now, but it’d be pretty cool to ride the Kimbo Express before it inevitably goes off the tracks and explodes in a fiery ball of destruction. Then I can say “Yep, I saw him.” The guy is a Youtube Hall of Famer after all and the freakiest fighter to make it into the UFC.

Here’s the rest of the Montreal card as it’s listed in MMA Junkie’s rumors section.

  • Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua
  • Rashad Evans vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson
  • Paul Daley vs. Josh Koscheck
  • Marcus Davis vs. Jonathan Goulet
  • Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson vs. Matt Mitrione
  • Alan Belcher vs. Patrick Cote
  • Jeremy Stephens vs. Sam Stout
  • T.J. Grant vs. Johny Hendricks

Note that I’m betting a hole punch to my nutsack that there’s no way Rashad Evans vs Quinton Jackson is gonna be in Montreal – that fight has Vegas written all over it. Oh, and once tickets go on sale, we’ll start sorting out the details of a Jackal meet.
