Vitor Belfort “isn’t loyal to anyone”

Despite the fact that Anderson Silva hasn’t exactly been looking awesome lately, no one is really giving Vitor Belfort much of a chance leading up to their fight on February 5th. Tatame surveyed a shit ton of Brazilian fighters for their predictions on the match-up, and none of them said they thought Vitor would win.

That might be because you never really know which Vitor will show up: original Vitor (good), old Vitor (bad), or new Vitor (good?). At least New Vitor is on a five win streak with 4 wins coming via impressive KO. But what happens to your expectations when the guy who’s been working on Belfort’s hands says he’s ‘lost his way’ again?

SHAWN TOMPKINS: “Well, you know, Vitor has done this before. Vitor sometimes, he gets a little clouded in his head. It’s not that he brought in Mike Tyson or anything like that. Vitor just wanders, you know, and he goes where, you know, what’s happening, what’s famous, what’s popular and he’ll go over there and Mike Tyson isn’t teaching him anything. Neither is the other eight gyms that he’s training at. Just because he’s over at Couture’s and not with me doesn’t mean he’s with Couture’s. Vitor isn’t loyal to anybody. We’ve seen it before.”

MAURO RANALLO: “I do sense some acrimony. Are you then not on good terms with Vitor right now?”

SHAWN TOMPKINS: “I hope for the best for him, but you know for a guy who told me about respect, loyalty, and God and all this stuff for so many years, he sure did prove the opposite. So, we’ll see. Best of luck to him. Best of luck to Anderson, as well.”

Now there’s two ways you could look at this: one way is to go OMG Vitor’s head is in the clouds, he’s split with his boxing coach halfway through a camp, this is doom! DOOM I SAY! And the other is to say Vitor Belfort isn’t the first guy to switch coaches and Tompkins is just acting all butthurt about the situation.

It’s not even like there’s some huge change going on: Belfort is returning to XTreme Couture, which is where he was up until Shawn Tomkins left to do his own thing last year. Shame on you, Shawn. Where is your respect and loyalty?

I don’t put a whole lot of stock in Shawn Thompkins to begin with. Maybe Vitor came to that conclusion too.

  • DJ ThunderElbows

you know for a guy who told me about respect, loyalty, and God and all this stuff for so many years, he sure did prove the opposite.

Yeah, imagine if he came out in public to say negative passive-aggressive shit about your private business together. That sure is some hypocrisy there.

In other news, I’ll be changing my major next year to social anthropology, my history professor will be holding a press conference to shit on my lack of faith and loyalty.

I thought training at different camps was a good thing, seems to depend on who you ask. I’ve never been a really big Tompkins fan. But I’d be calling Mike Tyson before I call Steven Seagall.

  • bosswell

I don’t know why you would want a coach with a 0-4 record.

  • frickshun

    5 strikes you’re out?

  • iamphoenix

who cares what comes out of shamn tompkins mouth.

  • Mal666

I know i would wanna be trained from the best MMA trainer around and would never leave my 0 and 4 mma fighter who has probally beat up more chicks then men.I know Shawn Tompkins YMCA aka McDOJO Karate skills are off the charts but wow . He knows respect just ask Mark (the boy from deliverance with the banjo )Hominuk or what ever his name is where shawns respect was when he got knocked the fuck out and he left him in the ring to only be helped by the guy he was fightings team …

  • MadMan

…a shit ton of Brazilian fighters & MMA experts can lick my balls

    Vitor FTW!

  • paulfear

maybe vitor split after he saw the horrid advice tompkins gave horodecki in his fight against cerrone.

  • Reverend Clint

    shawn tompkins is crap

  • kwagnuth

I think it is rediculous when gym owners expect their fighters to stick around for eternity. Let them spread their wings and fly like an eagle instead of trying to keep them in a cage like a girble.

  • Grappo

Tompkins, Wittman, and Laimon. The Holy Trinity of annoying trainers.

    Why can’t everyone be Danaher?!

  • matthewpolly

There’s only one Danaher. Oh and Tompkins didn’t leave Xtreme of his own volition. He was gently shown the door.
