Wanderlei talks 185, but I wants me some Wand/Rampage III first

Yesterday I was mentioning that the searing hatred Sports Illustrated’s Josh Gross’ bears for Dana White is a nice counterbalance to Kevin Iole’s constant fluff pieces. I didn’t bother to link to any examples because let’s face it … if you’ve been reading Fightlinker for longer than a month or two, you’re probably tired of me hauling out the Iole voodoo doll every week and pricking away. But I just wanted to point out that Kevin’s got a new love story about the torrid romance between Dana White and Wanderlei Silva. It also talks a little about Wand moving to 185:

A loss to Jardine would all but force Silva to drop to the middleweight division. White said, “If you can make the weight, that’s probably the division you should be fighting in,” but he respects Silva so much that he’ll let him make his own decision.

Silva is mulling it around and said he walks around between fights at 210, just five pounds over the light heavyweight division’s limit of 205. He seems a perfect fit for middleweight and would add considerable spice to a division in desperate need of a jolt.

But Silva also knows he’s capable of beating anyone at 205. “I have two wins already over the champion,” he says, referring to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, “and so maybe it would be good to stay here and try to get a fight with him.” But he also is realistic enough to know that as the sport evolves, it’s going to get progressively more difficult for guys his size to compete at light heavyweight.

There’s two big reasons for Wanderlei Silva to stick around at light heavyweight: Chuck Liddell and Quinton Jackson. If Dana White is smart, he’ll push Silva into the #1 contender spot if the Axe Murderer beats Keith Jardine. No more setting up a complicated line of fights and hoping for the right results … Wand vs Rampage in the Fall, please and thank you.

Say what you will about winning streaks and earning a shot … with two brutal victories over Jackson, there’s no one at light heavyweight right now that poses more of a threat to the current champion. It’s also just kinda sorta the fight all the fans want to see. So lets all pray to that vengeful God up in the sky and ask him to take a few seconds from wrecking Myanmar’s pagan ass to ensure we get to see Wanderlei vs Rampage and Chuck before he moves down to middleweight where he belongs. Amen!

I have it on the highest authority that Wandy will never be great in the UFC because they aren’t fighting with PRIDE rules and Dana White has watered down MMA so much that fighters like Wandy and Mirko just don’t have the heart to fight because they know it doesn’t mean anything.

I believe there was even math to prove it.

  • DannyP72

I’m hoping Forest gets run over by a truck or gets busted with coke or whatever so we can see Wandy v Rampage again.

Also Wandy walking around at 210, thats insane. Doesn’t Anderson cut from something like 215?

  • Mobb Deep

Let us also pray that Wandy shaves his head for the Jardine fight and reveals the most awesome of tattoos.

You mention that article without quoting the
“And that’s why White has fallen for Silva the way a high school football star might for a sultry cheerleader.” line? The tone in his articles is frankly frightening.

  • dragomort

    *are frankly frightening

  • pauli

franklin cuts from 215. anderson cuts from like 186. he’s made some vague threats about dropping to 170 if he gets bored.

  • Jemaleddin

@dragomort: “tone is” not “tone are” – you had it right the first time!

@pauli: Actually, A.Silva does cut from around 210. He’s actually pretty big for a middleweight.

  • dragomort

    …damn my over-anxious grammar corrections!!

Is Silva that big? He was fighting at 175 not too long ago at all. I seem to remember him saying he felt drained cutting so much to get down to that weight though and he had no intention of putting his body through that again considering he effectively performed worse after it too.

    rofl myanmar, well played sir

Mobb Deep….true fuckin that! Wandy looks a lot tougher and more bad ass (ie more marketable) when his head is shaved. that stupid mini-fro he rocked in the with the Lidell fight was kinda lame.

  • Burtonchik

We all know that he can’t win if he walks in to ‘sandstorm’. If there’s anything that’s gotta go, it’s that!

  • kentyman

If he loses Darude, he loses this fan!

It is Monday morning and everyone’s favorite new MMA page, SI, still reads “Jason Miller will fight Saturday night” in the main spot.
