What Confused Jon Jones When It Came To OSP?

ufc 197

Jon Jones packed on more muscle during his extended stay away from the Octagon.

While it helped him control Ovince Saint Preux this past weekend at UFC 197, he was never able to put the underdog away, settling instead for a convincing decision win and claiming the interim light heavyweight title.

“I was getting booed,” Jones said on the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show. “I’ve never been booed in my career.

“I’m my biggest critic. I had an expectation to beat him, and I didn’t really get to do that.”

Jones, though, was never in danger against Saint Preux. He took him down when he wanted to and kept him at bay with his length. There were some difficulties adjusting on the fly to OSP.

“He went orthodox a lot more that we prepared,” he said. “I switched up for a southpaw, and then I wasn’t expecting him to stay orthodox and I wasn’t moving the way I was supposed to counter it.”

Jones was scheduled to meet Daniel Cormier before an injury sidelined the current UFC champion. The two are on track to meet this July if both are healthy and cleared to go.
