What’s a grounded opponent?

Let this be a lesson to all the fighters who think monkeying around in the cage will protect them from a swift kick to the face.

that is so awesome, i feel all warm and fuzzy.

The three points of contact rule is ridiculous – you should be allowed to boot someone in the face for refusing to start the fight standing.

If an opponent is on the ground or on their knees that’s a grounded opponent. Putting one hand on the mat should not exempt a fighter from eating a knee or kick to the face. This is a loophole that fighters use to avoid striking or to get out of bad positions and I’m glad karmic justice was served.

  • bosswell

Thank you Adam. If that asshole wanted to be considered a downed opponent, he should have dropped to his knees or sat down. I consider him a bent over opponent, and I’m pretty sure there’s no rule against kicking bent over dipshits in the face.

  • agentsmith

That should totally be legal.  Manipulate the rules = free kick in the face.

  • DJ ThunderElbows

I hate cheaters, but that dude had it coming.

  • UberShmact

Oh man, that dude did not give a shit.

  • Jiiri

Eh, like or don’t like the rules, it doesn’t exempt fighters from needing to follow them. If the rules are changed, then I have no problem. But the fighter who was grounded BY THE RULES had a reasonable expectation that he wouldn’t get kicked in the face. His face was unprotected and it’s not a joke when someone can get seriously injured by someone else just being a dick.

I know it won’t be a popular view here, but it’s annoying as shit when people act like it’s ok to risk serious injury because you don’t like the rules.

  • Jarman

Being cute with the rules = getting kicked in the face.
Flagrantly kicking someone in the face = disqualified.

What’s the problem? They both knew the risks of their course of action. The ref had no choice….but they both did. Monkey-boy learned his lesson, other dude took his loss, and probably a bunch of lulz to boot. We’re the ones who win, getting to see that dude crawling around, wailing like a stuck walrus.

Son, you are no Jon Jones.

  • paulfear

wow. never heard of this show and it was like 30 minutes away.

judging by the other videos of this show it looks like there was also a double knockout when two guys fell out the door of the cage.

That is exactly what should happen to any asshole that tries to abuse that rule bending bullshit. It is as if the new way to counter an inside leg kick was to throw your balls in front of it.

  • noiseless

    holy fuck penix, mini jakobsen???

  • kwagnuth

That was some planet of the apes shit.

  • Jiiri

It’s not an “abuse of the rules.” It IS the rules. 3 points is grounded. I don’t know how anyone justifies someone potentially getting harmed while not protecting themselves because they are safe UNDER CURRENT rules. Now, we can change rules so that if you choose to ground yourself in order to avoid knees or kicks, then you are fair game. Then I have no issue, because then fighters will know to protect themselves in that spot. But as long as the rules make it so that you need not protect yourself from kicks when grounded it is classless and dangerous to take advantage of a fighter not protecting himself.

  • DJ ThunderElbows

Oh on a human level, you’re completyely right – I think getting struck illegally is terrible.  But the Jackal in my pants thinks it’s hilarious.

  • iamphoenix

i go around and kick people who are on the ground just to see what it feels like. so far its hilario

  • OlyReigns

I am not saying someone that does kick someone in the face while their hand is on the mat should not be disqualified, but i am just glad this happened cause i hate that shit and anyone that does it should be a little nervous that they are gonna get a toe in the eye.
