When the UFC decides you’re overpaid…

Around the time Fedor vs Dan Henderson had just been officially announced, word got out on how much money the fight was going to cost the UFC – 1.5 mil for Fedor and 800 grand for Hendo. Good for them! Or not so good, according to Five Ounces of Pain:

According to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation, Five Ounces of Pain has confirmed one of the core components of the matchmaking process in regards to their headlining bout on July 30 was the ability to sever professional ties with the loser based on the amount each earns in comparison to their perceived market value, as contracts are generally structured to allow for immediate release in the event of defeat.

AKA the loser of their fight can kiss their existing contract goodbye. Both Fedor and Hendo have pretty insane contracts with Strikeforce, so it’s kinda understandable. But it’d be pretty shitty for us to get so close to having Fedor in the UFC only to have the football pulled out from underneath us Charlie Brown style yet again.

why would you have Fedor in the UFC if he lost yet again ?

  • kvelertak

I think even if he wins he’ll quit.

Kinda filing this under “woulda been cool a year or two ago”

The only reason we wanted Fedor in the UFC was because we legitimately believed he could beat the current champion.  Maybe all the freakshow fights and contract bullshit caused him to pass his Best Before 2007 expiration date.

Interesting angle, hadn’t thought of that.

This is all on Fedor. They can’t cut their LHW Champ for losing to a HW legend. Dana probably sees this as getting rid of M-1 for good with a loss.

Fedor should just pack it in and leave town… he is basically just a vampire at this point. and elfenstein makes a good point… what 3 time loser belongs in the UFC

  • Billytk

I hate to say it especially since I still believe that in his prime Fedor was the P4P best of all time but at this point if he can’t even beat a LHW/MW who was beaten by a WW then he should hang up the gloves and call it a career.

whoah, spam on fightlinker? what’s happening, is cagepotato’s spam overflowing or something?

who would Fedor fight in the ufc anyway? Unless they gave him the cro cop treatment and dragged Eddie sanchez out of retirement or whatever happened to him, I just don’t see him being able to stand up to the big dogs. I mean even Fedor vs Brendan Schaub i could kinda go either way. the only reason i could think to bring him in would be to let big nog get revenge

  • frickshun

    Damn these motherfuckers are overpaid!!

  • Letibleu

    Is THAT Anderson Silva money?

  • DJ ThunderElbows

I guess if you take base purse and add PPV it might be Anderson Silva MoneyTM
