Eddie Alvarez finished his Bellator contract with a highlight reel KO over two months ago, and Bjorn The Powerful announced that they were waiving their 90-day exclusivity rights soon after. So is Eddie going to the UFC or what? Well apparently when Dana White says “let’s talk”, he means it in the same way you mean “I’ll call you” to random hookups, because only now has Eddie’s phone finally rang. According to Loretta Hunt (via Bloody Elbow):
Per Bellator’s Bjorn Rebney, they’ve received UFC contract offer for Eddie Alvarez and are now a few days into 2-wk matching period.
Rebney says Bellator has capability to match what UFC has offered Alvarez. Decision will be made in next week and half.
Hunt also cautions that just because Bellator is considering matching the offer, we shouldn’t presume it’s less than Hector Lombard’s generous salary. Here’s hoping it’s not, because unlike Lombard, Alvarez’s career thus far seems like more than just can-crushing. Of course, how well either of them will ultimately fare in the big leagues remains to be seen.
