Goddamn it, I hate it when the UFC sets up a long and convoluted line of challengers for title belts. In my opinion it should be one challenger at a time, and then the next challenger is picked … whoever’s the best at the time. But the UFC seems to keep wanting to create situations where they encourage fighters to sit back and wait their turn, which is fucking STUPID:
After earning his fifth straight victory in the UFC’s welterweight division, American Top Team’s Thiago “Pitbull” Alves (14-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) is now directly behind No. 1 contender Jon Fitch (17-2 MMA, 8-0 UFC) for a shot at the title.
Alves was informed of his positioning by UFC matchmaker Joe Silva immediately following the 24-year-old Brazilian’s TKO victory over Karo Parisyan (18-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) at Ultimate Fight Night 13.
What really makes me laugh here is that this is all contingent on GSP winning. Because you know Serra’s next fight is against Matt Hughes, no matter what. So once again the UFC is making all these plans, saying “Oh don’t worry, you’re next”, never taking into account everything that can happen, from injuries to upsets to god knows what else.
And who pays? Us fans. After beating Josh Koscheck, the UFC said GSP was going to get first crack at the winner of Hughes / Serra. So GSP got settled in and was prepared to wait until April for that shot. If it wasn’t for Serra getting injured, Georges wouldn’t have fought for over half a year. That’s one of the UFC’s marquee fighters – one of the most dominant fighters in their organization – sitting on the sidelines because of some retarded “Wait your turn” philosophy.
And now the UFC is doing the same thing again with Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves? Come on now. As I said, if Matt Serra wins, they’re gonna be waiting a long fucking time. Or what happens if GSP injures himself? What is the point of setting things up so far in advance? Why the fuck doesn’t the UFC just have those two face off with eachother in the meantime? Or throw Karo a freaking bone and let him trounce Jon Fitch. It’s the least the UFC can do after fucking him over with these goddamn title shot promises that never amounted to shit.
