So it is official: Yushin Okami has landed himself a decent home after getting controversially axed from the UFC last week.
The former UFC middleweight title contender has signed an exclusive, multi-fight deal with World Series of Fighting, the promotion’s president Ray Sefo and executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz confirmed with MMAFighting.com.
Okami will make his WSOF debut “around March” 2014, however, a specific date and opponent hasn’t been finalized. “Thunder” will compete in the organization’s middleweight division.
Signing with the World Series of Fighting is both unsurprising and surprising. Unsurprising because the WSOF literally tweeted Okami “You have a home at (WSOF)” the day the UFC let him go. Surprising because you’d figure one of those bigger Asian MMA promotions might want to get their hands on the highest ranked Japanese fighter in the world.
